H Scientific Ltd have developed a family of multiple channel analogue/digital I/O boards called the GENIE (GENeral Interface Equipment) board. This is a analogue/digital to USB converter. The GENIE board connects to the PC serial port or USB port, and therefore can be used equally with a laptop or desktop PC to provide external analogue and digital inputs and outputs. It can easily be daisy-chained to increase the volume of I/O if required.

The GENIE 1 board drives a 4-digit 7-segment LED display and can be configured to interface with a 64-key keyboard. The specialist functions make it ideally suited for use as a hand-held unit replacing a computer keyboard for simple controller for a remote control system. The GENIE 2 board is a general purpose version of the GENIE providing an increased number and resolution of analogue inputs and outputs. Custom versions are available on request.

GENIE 1

Genie 1: generic analogue & digital I/O
  • 6x analogue input (4x 12-bit, 2x 8-bit) analogue input, +/-5V
  • 2x analogue output, +/-5V
  • Digital outputs can be configured to drive a 4-digit 7-segment LED display
  • Digital inputs can be used to interface with a 64-key keyboard
  • PC104 footprint board.
  • Daisy-chaining capability (up to 15 boards)
  • Efficient, low bandwidth communications between boards and PC
  • Low noise, 50mA current consumption from 12V

GENIE 2

Genie 2: generic analogue & digital I/O

  • USB / serial port connection
  • 8x 12-bit analogue input (differential), 5V, 10V, bipolar, unipolar (user-configurable)
  • 8x 12-bit analogue output, +/-5V (+/-10V option available)
  • 16x digital inputs
  • 16x digital outputs
  • PC104 footprint board.
  • Daisy-chaining capability (up to 15 boards)
  • Efficient, low bandwidth communications between boards and PC
  • Low noise, 50mA current consumption from 12V

H Scientific supply the GENIE 2 board mounted within a box together with a USB adaptor board; two configurations are offered:

  • with power, USB and D-type connections for analogue inputs and outputs.
  • together with a break-out board, with power and USB connections and glands through which the cables may be passed to the break-out board.
